This chart exposes the mythology of Blairite success. In 1997 Blair won the election with only 43% of the vote. In subsequent elections, in 2001, 2005, 2010 the Labour vote collapsed. At its lowest it was 30%, the second lowest in Labour history. In 2015, with slightly left leader, Miliband, the Labour vote recovered slightly. But it was only in 2017 that Labour's vote shot up to 40%. The 2nd biggest leap in Labour history. The very last point on that chart is based on opinion polls at the end of 2017, when it overtook Blair's best vote share.
